Multifaceted

I have been speculating for some time about what this is (on the pavement in Ghuznee Street outside Hamish McKay and Bowen Galleries):

I believe it's a prototype for new public benches, to be used in West Courtenay park/square and perhaps elsewhere. For a while there were wooden slats on the elevated section, but they've gone now, which leads me to believe that the council is trying out various options to see how they work "in the wild".
